Tangolandó is the first encounter of the tango with Afro-Peruvian music, a journey integrating sounds born from the need of communication and exchange in Latin-American music in the cosmopolitan city of New York. The penetrating passion of tango together with the sensuality and mischievousness of the Afro-Peruvian and creole genres give life to this meshed, fluid and organic approach from Sofia Tosello and Yuri Juárez. From the bandoneon's melancholic sounds to the rogue beat of the cajon, Tangolando recreates in a perfect balance timeless tangos through the freshness of Peru's coastal contemporary music. The record holds tango classics, songs by Carlos Gardel, Astor Piazzola, Enrique Cadícamo, Homero Expósito, and new compositions  by Yuri Juárez.

The record was launched in the spring of 2012 in Peru and Argentina with a tour in both countries, and has received coverage in newspapers, as well as on radio and TV shows including El Peruano, RPP Noticias, Sonidos del  Mundo in Peru, La Voz del Interior and La Nacion in Argentina. Click for Tangolandó's Photo Gallery and for ALL THE PRESS. The record was launched in the US in the Fall of 2012 and received coverage on El Diario and Latin Jazz Network, as well as radio play in the US and Canada.

Yuri Juárez is a guitarist, arranger and composer from Lima, specializing in Afro-Peruvian music, folk and fusion. Yuri has shared the stage and recorded with the likes of Eva Ayllón, Susana Baca, Chaqueta Piaggio, iconic Peruvian composer Kiri Escobar, and trail blazing bands including the Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Sextet, Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Novalima, Teatro del Milenio. In 2008 Yuri releases his first album, Afroperuano, which achieves great success in domestic and international criticism and in 2009 receives the Latin Jazz Corner Awards in the categories of Best Afroperuvian Jazz Album and Best Latin Jazz Guitarist debut.

Originally from Argentina, Sofia Tosello’s music is rooted in the variety of Latin American cancion traditions, including tango, chacarera, bolero filin, son, zamba and Brazilian popular music, with shades of jazz and a bit of funk. She has performed with Pedro Giraudo Jazz Orchestra, Aquiles Baez, Thalia, Julio Santillan, Alex Cuba, Folklore Urbano, at Summerstage Central Park, the Blue Note, the Heckscher Theater, the Jazz Standard, BAM Café, the Aaron Davis Hall and other NYC landmarks, as well the Art Museum of Philadelphia, Ryles Club, the Michigan Women’s Festival, el Teatro Real (Argentina), Macau Jazz Festival (China) and more.
